Sensory Pod

We are raising money for an outdoor sensory pod / teaching area for the school.

An outdoor pod will enable staff and children to head outdoors, no matter the weather, to use the space to learn, as a calming area/small group intervention away from the classroom or simply a space to extend the children's imaginative games. The space can be transformed for numerous different activities to take place. It could even be used to host external community group meetings.

Taking children into a fresh, new environment, where they are surrounded by nature, is the perfect way to increase participation in lessons. It’s perfect for calming those children who may be struggling with a topic and enabling them to work though their struggles step by step, as they forget about all of the stresses and distractions back inside.

The natural environment is perfect for children to relax and refocus themselves as they listen to nature and self-regulate away from the busy classroom. As they breathe in a breath of fresh air and prepare themselves for learning, the outdoor environment acts as a fantastic stress relief, improving children’s (and staff's) well-being, too.

We have managed to raise our goal - with a combination of events, donations and the Tesco grant! Woo hoo! Thanks to everyone that has supported us throughout the school year, you are truly appreciated and amazing!

The school are exploring the option of an external shelter placed within the natural environment (on the edge of the school boundary beside the woods, at the front of the building), since they provide plenty of benefits (see below) to the school, the children and the staff.
