The Need
Our current facilities can no longer keep pace with the number of children who need a safe space to regulate their emotions and sensory needs. As a small Catholic primary school with a growing number of pupils with SEND, a dedicated space isn't a nice-to-have for us — it's essential.
Why It Matters
Sensory regulation support delivers vital wellbeing, communication and learning benefits for children with autism, sensory processing difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs. A well-designed sensory space helps children manage anxiety, reduces dysregulation, and increases their ability to access learning and remain in class. It gives our most vulnerable pupils a calm, safe environment during moments of sensory overload, and the tools to build independence and confidence.
Our Vision
By building a dedicated SEND Inclusion and Sensory Regulation Hub, we'll create a nurturing, purpose-built space — with sensory lighting, soft play, calming furniture and tactile resources — where every child, whatever their needs, can regulate, learn and thrive. This funding will help us give our pupils the specialist support they deserve.
About Our School
St Bede's Catholic Primary School is a small single-form entry school of 217 pupils in South Shields, part of the Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust. We're supported by a newly launched PTA and a committed community of staff, governors and families. We're aiming to raise approximately £75,000 to give our children the Hub they deserve.
Every gift, big or small, brings us closer to giving St Bede's children the space they need to thrive — please give today.
