Help us give every Willingdon student the chance to learn to cook
The Need - Willingdon Community School has around 1,100 students, and just one food preparation classroom. Demand for food preparation at GCSE is greater than the places we can offer, so some of our students cannot follow this pathway at Key Stage 4 - and with new housing locally, our roll keeps growing.
Why It Matters - Cooking is a skill for life. A second Food Prep Classroom for 24 students would let far more young people choose food at GCSE, widen access to practical, hands-on learning, and give our growing school the teaching space it needs. As a school with a Deaf Facility and more students with education, health and care plans than any other secondary school in the county, inclusive practical spaces matter to us.
The Project - We are converting an existing classroom into a fully equipped food tech room with space for 24 students. The project will cost around £110,000. Thanks to a generous grant from the Savoy Educational Trust and school funds, we have already secured around £60,000. Now we are asking our community to help us raise the remaining £50,000.
What your donation pays for:
- The conversion works
- Specialist furniture and fittings
- Eqquipment for up to 24 students to cook and learn together
All donations however small are greatfully received
This autumn we celebrate our 70th anniversary, and we cannot think of a better gift to mark it than a classroom that teaches our students skills for life. Every gift, big or small, brings our second food tech classroom closer. Please donate today, and if you are a former student celebrating 70 years of Willingdon with us, please share this page with your year group. Thank you for your support.
