A Calm Space for Every Child Who Needs It
At Harestock Primary School, we believe every child deserves the support they need to feel safe, regulated, and ready to learn — but right now, there is a significant gap in what we can offer our most vulnerable children.
The Challenge
We support children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, and adverse childhood experiences — as well as a number of service children from a nearby military base who face their own unique pressures. These pupils are currently supported in mainstream classrooms with very limited access to a fully equipped, dedicated calming space.
What We Are Building
We are creating a dedicated sensory room — a calm, purpose-built space where pupils can regulate their emotions, decompress, and receive targeted support. The room will be equipped with specialist sensory technology including:
- Calming lighting and sound systems to reduce sensory overload
- Tactile and movement-based equipment to support self-regulation
- Comfortable, low-stimulation furnishings for decompression and recovery
- Resources for targeted 1:1 therapeutic and wellbeing support
Why Your Support Matters
With your help, this room will be available to every child who needs it — giving our most vulnerable pupils the stability and safety they need to engage with school, build confidence, and fulfil their potential. Every contribution, large or small, brings us closer to opening this vital space.
Become Our Community Champion
We are looking for one supporter or local business to step forward as our Community Champion — a founding donor who helps make this room possible. A gift of £500 or more will be recognised with a permanent acknowledgement in the sensory room itself, along with an invitation to our opening.
